Fun End of Year Music Project for Grades 6-12

24 05 2010

If you are looking for something fun to finish the year in your music class try this project out. “Why do we listen to music” or “What is on their ipod” . My grade 6 students studied the Renaissance Era this year and thus I asked them to list ten songs Leonardo Da Vinci would have had on his ipod and give reasons why. You could do this project with famous musicians as well.  Who might Bach have been listening to? First we discussed “why” we listen to specific music. Then we discussed that influences might be our jobs, what kind of person we are, our likes and dislikes, the purposes of music, etc. Second, get them online to research the person to find out their influences. Then they should chose their repertoire. Remind them to make sure it is music composed before the person died.

Interesting concept and definitely something I will share with my own music students!

My students had a lot of fun with this one. One they got into it they got very philosophical about their choices. Have fun with the music!

This sounds like a great project. When I click on the link to the project it does not take me anywhere. Is there any other way to access the link? Thanks!!
